The fabric of the medieval European world was based off of a system called feudalism. This system proved it's worth in Medieval Europe, but eventually died out. In the feudal system, every class had something to gain from others. Kings gave land and protection, and were given loyalty and troops. Vassals gave their loyalty and troops, and gained land and protection, and so on and so forth.
